2016 LAGUNA DANCE FESTIVAL
September 22 -25, 2016 All performances at The Laguna Playhouse

Laguna Dance Festival presents contemporary cool from coast to coast with Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion from New York City, BalletX from Philadelphia, and BODYTRAFFIC from Los Angeles.

Now in its 12th year, award-winning Laguna Dance Festival brings to the stage these three renowned dance companies that promise to transport audience members into an alternately joyful and thought-provoking realm of artistic expression through movement. Festival Founder and Artistic Director Jodie Gates has curated a festival with different international choreographers who possess a range of aesthetics and perspectives.

New York-based Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion’s thought-provoking “Pavement” transforms the stage into a basketball court, and sweeps audiences into a moving meditation on the 1991 John Singleton film Boyz N The Hood as well as W.E.B. DuBois’ 1903 book The Souls of Black Folk. “Pavement” will be performed September 22 & 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Returning to Laguna Beach, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet company BalletX challenges the boundaries of classical ballet by encouraging formal experimentation while preserving rigorous technique. BalletX will be joined by Laguna Dance Festival favorite BODYTRAFFIC of Los Angeles for one exceptional evening with two of the nation’s most popular boutique dance companies on September 24 at 8 p.m.

After Saturday night’s performance, come mingle with the dancers and enjoy a wine and dessert reception under the stars on The Laguna Playhouse Patio. To join us for the post-performance reception, select the “Regular Ticket + VIP Reception” ticket price during seat selection. Reception Price $25.

On Sunday, September 25 at 3 p.m. BalletX offers an afternoon of entertaining dance featuring distinguished choreographers Jorma Elo (Finland), Cayetano Soto (Spain), Amy Seiwert (USA), and Matthew Neenan (USA).
